Judo

Judo was developed from the ancient Japanese Martial Art of Ju-jitsu in the late 1800's. In 1882 its founder Dr. Jigoro Kano wanted to establish a discipline suitable for practice in Schools and Universities, and so removed the more dangerous elements of Ju-jitsu and devised rules of contest and practice which would ensure the safety of the participants. Judo is now an Olympic sport, and is practiced in clubs, schools and colleges. This original style became known as the Kodokan style of Judo.
